Ferrara Foundation was founded in 2017 to inspire the next generation of makers and doers, and provide them with the skills needed to bring ideas to reality. Apparel manufacturing has an important cultural significance in the USA - in the 1960s 87% of clothing was made in America. With the offshoring of manufacturing skills in the 1990s, our nation lost valuable hands-on skills, and with the downward spiral in manufacturing, other adjacent trades joined as well, such as plumbing, mechanics, welding, and other machine operators. The idea was born out of love for making and wanting to give others tools to make as well. Our mission is to provide publicly accessible education around apparel manufacturing, respecting the past traditions as well as encouraging what is possible with future innovations & investments.
